Is ethical hacking legal in India? Read this before you enrol
Ethical hacking is legal in India when — and only when — it is authorised. You may test systems you own, lab machines built for the purpose, and client systems where you hold written permission defining what you may touch and when.
Accessing any computer system without permission is an offence under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, punishable by up to three years imprisonment and/or a fine. Downloading data or damaging systems attracts additional liability under Section 43. “I was only learning” is not a defence.
This is why the course begins with scope, authorisation and rules of engagement, and why every technique is practised in a lab. Any Delhi institute that has you scanning live websites “for practice” is putting you at legal risk — ask them directly what you will be testing.
Six months, month by month
Foundations
Networking, Linux command line, virtual lab setup, and the legal boundaries of testing. You build your own Kali environment and break your first deliberately vulnerable machine.
Recon & scanning
OSINT, Google dorking, Nmap, service enumeration and vulnerability scanning. You learn to map an attack surface before touching it.
Exploitation
Metasploit, password attacks, privilege escalation on Linux and Windows, and post-exploitation. This is where most self-taught learners get stuck without guidance.
Web & API hacking
The OWASP Top 10 exploited hands-on — SQLi, XSS, SSRF, IDOR — with Burp Suite workflows and JWT/API attacks. The highest-paying skill in the course.
Wireless, mobile & human layer
Wi-Fi attacks, Android APK analysis, and social engineering understood as a defender — how the phishing and honeytrap attacks reported across Delhi actually work.
Reporting & bug bounty
Writing a report that gets accepted, proof-of-concept discipline, choosing bug bounty programs, and building a public profile plus interview preparation.

Bug bounty: the honest version
Bug bounty is real income for a small number of disciplined people and near-zero income for everyone who treats it as a lottery. Most beginners fail for the same three reasons: they go out of scope, they report low-severity noise, and they write reports a triager cannot reproduce.
The final module addresses exactly those failures. You learn to read a program's scope like a contract, to pick a narrow attack surface instead of scanning everything, to build a proof of concept a triager can replicate in sixty seconds, and to write the report in the format platforms expect.
What we will not tell you is that bounties replace a salary. For almost everyone the sensible path is a security job first, bounties on weekends second.
