Gemini SEO — getting cited by Google's AI

Gemini answers web questions using Grounding with Google Search: it issues search queries, retrieves pages from Google's index, and cites the sources it used. Optimising for Gemini therefore means ranking and being retrievable in Google Search, allowing the Google-Extended token in robots.txt, keeping one consistent entity identity, and writing self-contained passages a model can quote.

How Gemini gets its facts

Gemini does not answer current questions from memory alone. When grounding is active, it runs searches, retrieves pages from Google's live index, and produces an answer attached to the sources it used. That has a blunt consequence: your Google organic performance is the foundation of your Gemini visibility. If a page is not indexed, or sits far outside the set Google would surface for the query, Gemini has no route to it. So the unglamorous work still comes first — indexation, internal linking, page speed, a crawlable sitemap, no accidental noindex. Only after that does anything specific to AI make a measurable difference.

Google-Extended is a permission token, not a crawler

This is the single most misunderstood control in the space. Google-Extended has no user-agent string of its own and fetches nothing. Googlebot still does the crawling; Google-Extended only declares whether that content may be used for Gemini Apps grounding and future Gemini model training. Disallowing it does not affect your inclusion or ranking in Google Search, and allowing it does not give Google extra access. If you want Gemini to be able to use your content, leave Google-Extended allowed. Many Indian sites have copied a blanket "block all AI bots" robots.txt from a blog post and quietly opted themselves out of the exact visibility they are now paying to chase.

One entity, stated the same way everywhere

Google's systems resolve text to entities. If your business appears as three slightly different names, two phone numbers and an author with no profile anywhere, the model has nothing stable to attach a claim to. We consolidate this: a single Organization node with one canonical @id reused site-wide, a single Person node for the author with a real profile page and sameAs links pointing only to profiles that genuinely exist, identical NAP on every page and on the Google Business Profile, and author bylines that state actual credentials. For Cyber Defence that means Amit Kumar, CEH and CRTA certified, at Red Square Market, Hisar, Haryana 125001 — stated identically wherever it appears.

Passages Gemini can use without rewriting them

Grounded answers are assembled from short spans of text. The spans that get used share a shape: the subject is named explicitly, the answer arrives in the opening sentence, any number carries its unit and its date, and the paragraph makes sense pulled out of the page. We restructure key pages around that shape — a direct answer block under the H1, question-form H2s that match how people actually phrase things, comparison tables where a comparison is the real question, and pricing stated as a number rather than "contact us for a quote". A model cannot quote a price it has to ask you for.

What the engagement covers

A Gemini engagement starts with the ₹10,000 audit: robots.txt and Google-Extended status, indexation coverage, entity graph consistency, and a baseline of how Gemini currently answers a fixed set of your buyer questions. From there the ongoing work is normal technical and on-page SEO with AI extractability built in — technical SEO ₹25,000/month, on-page ₹15,000/month, off-page ₹20,000/month where authority is the actual bottleneck. Reporting re-runs the same prompt set monthly so you can see movement rather than adjectives. We do not claim influence over Gemini's output, only over whether your pages are eligible to be part of it.

Gemini SEO — getting cited by Google's AI — FAQs

Should I block Google-Extended to protect my content?

That is a business decision, not an SEO one. Blocking it keeps your pages out of Gemini Apps grounding and Gemini model training while leaving Google Search ranking untouched. If your goal is AI visibility, blocking it works directly against you. If your goal is protecting proprietary content, blocking it is reasonable and costs you nothing in Search.

Does blocking Google-Extended also remove me from Google AI Overviews?

No. AI Overviews in Search are governed by ordinary Googlebot crawling and standard snippet controls such as nosnippet, max-snippet and data-nosnippet — not by Google-Extended. They are separate levers, which is why we check both during an audit.

Gemini mera competitor ko dikhata hai, mujhe nahi. Kya karein?

Pehle check karte hain ki aap us query par Google mein rank karte bhi ho ya nahi — agar nahi, to Gemini tak pahunchne ka rasta hi nahi hai. Uske baad robots.txt, Google-Extended, aur aapke page ke answer blocks dekhte hain. Aksar problem yeh hoti hai ki competitor ne seedha jawab likha hai aur aapne sirf service list.

Is Gemini SEO a separate service from normal SEO?

We do not sell it as a separate product, because roughly seventy per cent of it is standard technical and content SEO done well. The genuinely Gemini-specific additions are the Google-Extended policy, entity consolidation and passage restructuring, which we fold into the normal scope rather than billing twice.

How do I check whether Gemini can even see my site?

Fetch your own robots.txt and look for a Google-Extended group, confirm the page is indexed in Search Console, then ask Gemini a question your page should answer and see which domains it cites. If it cites nobody in your sector, the query may not trigger grounding at all — that is a signal too.
