Most "hacked phone" fears are actually caused by shady apps, phishing, or a stolen password — not movie-style hacking. Here’s how to tell if something is wrong and how to fix it.

Warning signs

  • Battery drains fast and the phone runs hot when idle.
  • Unknown apps you didn’t install, or a remote-access app (AnyDesk/TeamViewer) you don’t remember adding.
  • Pop-ups, redirects, and data usage spikes.
  • OTPs arriving for logins you didn’t start, or friends getting spam from you.

What to do — step by step

  • Uninstall any remote-access or unknown apps immediately.
  • Update the OS and all apps; run a reputable security scan.
  • Change passwords for email and banking from a different, trusted device; enable two-factor authentication.
  • Review app permissions; remove accessibility/admin rights from suspicious apps.
  • If problems persist, back up your data and do a factory reset.

Prevent it next time

  • Install apps only from official stores; never sideload from links.
  • Never install an app because a caller told you to.
  • Keep the OS updated and use a screen lock.

FAQ

Can someone hack my phone just by calling me?

Practically no. Real compromise almost always needs you to install something or enter credentials on a fake page.

Does a factory reset remove spyware?

In most cases yes. Reset, then change key passwords from a clean device and re-enable two-factor authentication.

An app is asking for accessibility permission — is that risky?

It can be. Accessibility and device-admin rights are powerful; grant them only to apps you fully trust.
